Dear Parents,
We had a great time at the field trip and we were able to see Governor Lynch. The kids were very well behaved and I was very proud of them. They also learned a lot at the History Museum at Eagle Square.
April is here and it is time for the NWEA testing in Math and Language Arts. We will be testing on Monday morning (4/9), Wed morning (4/11) and Friday afternoon (4/13). Please make sure your child has a nutritious breakfast and enough sleep. These tests are lengthy and require a lot of stamina.
Last week we had Alice Ogdon as our artist in residence. She showed the children how to weave a star. You may have seen other children bring their project home, but ours isn't done because we missed Art this week for the field trip. This project will be completed Monday and then the children can take home their project to show you.
Speaking of projects. I will be expecting the children to put their regions project together over April vacation. If you are going away, I would suggest the children get it done the week before. We have the research part almost finished and we will be typing it soon. The part I would like you to help your child with is the presentation. I spoke to them about using poster board or a presentation board to display their information. They should include a map of their region in the middle of the board. The map should include a legend of the products and natural resources of that region. Around the map I would like them to focus on some of the notable features of their region. For example, they will have information on tourist spots, geography, resources, traditions and famous people. There should be a little more information on one of these areas that they choose to highlight. We have talked as a class about how they can do that. Some have said they would like to make a diorama. That would be fun to do. I think if there was a war fought in their region, they might like to do that in a diorama. Another idea is a physical map where they could show the elevations. This is a major project and they have been working very hard on it. I look forward to seeing this all put together. Please let me know if you have any questions.
